We believe in showing up, meeting needs, and reminding every person they are seen and valued. Our work is driven by compassion, humility, and the simple truth that we’re all just people.

The Heart of Volunteering

At Just People, volunteering means giving the most valuable thing you have — your time.
Whether you’re out in the field serving our community face-to-face or working quietly behind the scenes, every role plays a vital part in keeping our mission alive.

In the Field

Each month, our outreach team serves hundreds of individuals and families experiencing homelessness or hardship throughout Owensboro.

We meet on the last Saturday of every month at the Cadillac Motel at 10:00 AM, aiming to begin service by 10:30 AM. From there, we travel to English Park around noon, and the day typically concludes no later than 3:00 PM. Our work includes loading and unloading tables, totes, and supplies — tasks that are sometimes heavy, but always meaningful.

Field volunteers help distribute food, hygiene items, and clothing, but they also do something deeper — they connect, listen, and share kindness in places where hope can be hard to find.
This isn’t glamorous work. It happens in blistering heat and bone-chilling cold, but the impact goes far beyond the moment. Every handshake, every smile, and every shared story reminds someone that they are not forgotten.

Behind the Scenes

While the field work is visible, the heart of our organization beats in the background.

When donations arrive, they must be received, weighed, sorted, packaged, and stored with care. That process keeps our operations running smoothly and ensures every outreach is ready when the time comes.

We’re currently seeking someone who can take ownership of this vital area — someone who enjoys organization and logistics, perhaps retired or semi-retired, who wants to serve in a steady and meaningful way. This position involves maintaining inventory, coordinating supplies, and leading small teams of volunteers who assist with sorting and packaging.

You’ll have support, guidance, and resources from our leadership team — you just need a willing heart and a love for order.
